The US’s advantage in the soft power competition in Africa

The soft power competition for political and business influence in Africa has never been so fierce.

Superpowers are vying for access to the continent’s wealth of natural resources, growing consumer market and investment potential. The war in Ukraine has also seen the West and Russia vying to shape Africa’s 52 votes at the United Nations.

Amongst the world’s superpowers, the USA has a distinct advantage. Thanks to its African diasporas, America is in a powerful position, despite not currently using this strength to its greatest potential.
